Due to the changes in Higher Level maths from the “old course” to the Project Maths course, I felt
as if I was struggling with maths in ways I had not encountered in Junior Cycle. In November of my
Leaving Cert year, I decided that grinds were the only way I was going to survive the coming year and
acquired the guidance of Jack.
Jack’s grinds not only aided my understanding of the Project Maths course through excellent study
tips and exam techniques, but also motivated me through my difficulties with the subject.
I found the one-to-one sessions to be very helpful as they were orientated to suit my specific maths
needs, something which couldn’t be accommodated within the school curriculum.

When I started grinds with Jack I was struggling with Maths. I got a D3 in my fifth year summer
test and I needed to improve quickly. The grinds helped hugely from the start and I gradually
improved throughout the year. It was because of Jacks teaching and guidance that I was confident
walking into my leaving cert maths exam and that I got an A2 in that exam, which I was extremely
happy with. I'm now studying Physics in UCC and I use the Maths that I learned with Jack all the
time, but more importantly I use the techniques for learning maths too. Overall I found the grinds
extremely helpful and I know that I would not have gotten the result in the leaving cert that i did
without them.
